Issabelle Ampofo(Msc. Animal Breeding and Genetics), Graduate Research Assistant
Issabelle Ampofo was born and raised in Accra, the capital town of Ghana. Currently, she is in the first year of her PhD. program in Animal Breeding and Genomics. Her research interests are in epidemiological models applied to livestock production. Her dissertation aims at implementing a genomic evaluation program for improving acute hepatopancreatic necrosis disease (AHPND) resistance in Penaeus vannamei (Pacific White Shrimp). Issabelle's research is supported by funding from USDA-NIIFA. She holds a joint master's degree in Animal Breeding and Genetics from Wageningen University of Research (The Netherlands) and the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences (Austria). Before starting her PhD at the University of Connecticut, she worked with the African Research Academies for Women (ARA-W) and the Volunteers Initiative for Science in Africa (VISA), where she mentored young girls in STEM graduate education in Ghana. Her hobbies include taking long walks, listening to music and watching docuseries. She's very introverted but can be fun to hang out with too.
