Juan P. Steibel has a B.Sc. in Agronomy from University of La Pampa (Argentina) and an MSc in Biometry from University of Buenos Aires (Argentina) and a PhD in Animal Science from Michigan State University.
His main research and teaching interests are in the area of quantitative genetics, genomics and phenomics in animal populations. Specifically, Juan's research involves the development and adaptation of statistical and computational methods for joint analysis of multi-omics, including transcriptomic, phenomic and genomic, data with the ultimate goal of improving global food security.
Most of his applied work has been on swine production systems, but he has also worked and published on other animal production systems and on wildlife and fisheries species. His program is funded by commodity groups, breeder's associations and NIFA.
Juan is the J. Lush Endowed Chair of Animal Breeding and Genetics at Iowa State University, where he is a Professor in the Department of Animal Science. Before that, he was a Professor of Animal Science and Fisheries & Wildlife at Michigan State University.
