Sharlene Hartman is a master's student at Purdue University studying animal genetics, breeding, and genomics. She completed her undergraduate degree in Animal Sciences at Purdue University as well in 2020 and during which worked on disease data entry for the Indiana State Poultry Association (ISPA). Her current research investigates genetic variance components of behavior traits in lactating production sows and their correlation with indicators of heat stress in swine using genomic information. This study was based on a specialized ethogram developed to work in a commercial setting using a standardized handling procedure efficient enough to gauge hundreds of animals per day.
