Samla Cunha has a bachelor's in Veterinary Medicine and an MSc in Genetics and Animal Breeding that she completed in Brazil. Currently, Samla is a Ph.D. student at the University of Guelph under the supervision of Dr. Angela Cánovas. Her Ph.D. project aims to identify functional markers associated with the genetic resistance of sheep to gastrointestinal nematode parasite infection and its potential application in breeding strategies. Samla worked with molecular diagnostics of genetic diseases and genetic evaluation of conformation traits in Gir cattle. She is interested in animal breeding, quantitative genetics, and genomics.
