Mateus Gionbelli is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Animal Science at the University of Lavras (UFLA), Brazil. Since joining UFLA in 2014, he has established a research program focused on maternal nutrition and fetal programming in ruminant animals. His research examines the quantitative, nutritional, and physiological aspects of gestation and lactation in beef cows. His program has received substantial funding from the Brazilian National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq), the Minas Gerais Research Funding Foundation (FAPEMIG), the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES), as well as industry companies. In 2020, he was recognized as one of the recipients of the Roullier Innovation Awards for his work on fetal programming. Mateus is actively involved in teaching and mentoring both graduate and undergraduate students.
Mateus earned his B.S. in Animal Science from Santa Catarina State University, and he completed his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees at the University of Viçosa in Brazil. During his Ph.D., he was a visiting scholar at the USDA/MARC in Clay Center, NE.
Currently, Mateus holds the position of Scientific Director at the Brazilian Society of Animal Science and serves as the Editor-in-chief of the Brazilian Journal of Animal Science.
