Originally from Belo Horizonte, Brazil, Lucas completed his DVM degree from the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG) in 2013. Lucas went on to complete his MSc training at UFMG under the mentorship of Dr. Dalton Fontes. His MSc research focused on the effects of immunization against GnRH on growth performance and reproductive activity of finishing gilts. After completing his MSc training, Lucas worked as a swine nutritionist and technical consultant for Vaccinar, where his responsibilities encompassed diet formulation, research and development, and tech services. In 2018, Lucas moved to Saskatoon, Canada, to complete doctoral training under Dr. Dan Columbus at the Prairie Swine Centre and the University of Saskatchewan. His doctoral studies, completed in 2022, examined the effectiveness of provision of functional amino acids to enhance robustness in enteric challenged pigs. Lucas joined Zinpro Corporation in February 2022 as a Discovery Researcher – Swine. Lucas’ current responsibilities are product development and support, direction and coordination of research studies, and provision of training for internal and external customers.
