Christopher Tuggle, Ph.D. is a professor in Molecular Genetics at the Department of Animal Science, Iowa State University and serves as Swine Genome Co-Coordinator, USDA-NRSP-8. Dr. Tuggle received a PhD (1986) and completed postdoctoral training in developmental genetics (1987-1991). Dr. Tuggle joined Iowa State University in 1991 as an Assistant Professor, achieving the rank of Professor in 2001. His research projects include functional genomics and bioinformatics of the pig genome, especially in understanding control of feed efficiency and the immune response. A new project is characterizing and exploiting a serendipitous mutation in the Iowa State University Yorkshire herd that causes severe combined immune deficiency as a biomedical model.
Dr. Tuggle has been fortunate enough to publish more than 198 journal articles, book chapters and patents, and he has been awarded over $15 Million as PI and over $22 Million as co-PI in his career in research and graduate training funding. He has mentored 19 MS and PhD students to achieve their graduate degrees, as well as 16 postdoctoral fellows and visiting scientists to successfully complete collaborative research in his lab. He has provided over 120 invited talks to various groups.
